Pedal Power and Fresh Carrot Juice: Berkwood Hedge Visits Rock the Bike

The best learning happens when students can feel it in their legs, see the results in real time, and discover for themselves how the world works.

That belief sits at the heart of everything we do at Rock the Bike. We’re bike people - builders, inventors, and advocates working out of our Oakland workshop to expand what bikes can mean in the world. From pedal-powered blenders to generators and interactive installations, our mission is simple: make it easier for people to experience the power of human energy, and to see biking as something worth celebrating.

Earlier this year, we had the pleasure of welcoming students from Berkwood Hedge for a day of exploration, teamwork, and pedal-powered discovery.

A Behind-the-Scenes Tour

The visit kicked off with a tour of our building and a chance for the students to meet our team. They got an up-close look at our 3D printer, heard from our sales team about what we do, and saw how we store and organize all our equipment.

Putting Their Energy to the Test

Next, we moved into the experiential part of the day. We set up our sLEDgehammer, and it didn't take long for the competitive spirit to kick in - students were determined to see how high they could push their wattage numbers!

Teamwork, Pedaling, and Juice

Then came the main event: juice time. We headed outside, where four Generator Pros were set up and connected to a juicer. Four kids hopped on the bikes while the rest of the group got to work prepping carrots and feeding them into the juicer.

It was a great reminder of what hands-on, collaborative energy looks like - kids took turns on the bikes powering the juicer, while others keeping the carrots flowing. Juice making at its finest!

The Taste of Teamwork

After, we all enjoyed fresh carrot juice they had powered. Many students said they never tried carrot juice before and were a little skeptical to try. But maybe because they'd put in the work - pedaling, prepping, and pitching in - everyone gave it a try and enjoyed!

Why We Love Days Like This

Working with schools and kids is one of our favorite things to do at Rock the Bike. It's a direct investment in the future, and experiences like this show students what's possible when you think differently about energy.

The best part is seeing all the kids genuinely excited to get involved - and that's exactly the kind of impact we hope to keep making.
