The experience of taking art bikes to the street in Rock The Bike’s formative years inspired the Ectoplasmic Bikes. We got a lot of notoriety for a 14’ tall bike tree called El Arbol. It makes people happy at dusk seeing a beautiful glowing bike art coming through the street, wanting communities to be a place of wonder. We wanted to have that type of thing be more accessible for events where people aren't moving through the streets, but in an event venue.
The ectoplasmic bikes create a feeling of amazement when they illuminate. People want to be near them because they're visually stunning and functional, and people like functional art. It makes them feel happy that they can interact with art as opposed to just spectating it.
Ectoplasmic bikes are reliable pieces of functional art that you can rent for your events. They make parties better, because people like standing around art and having excuses to start conversations. We brought our light-up bikes to a major museum in San Francisco and participated in their young adults nightlife event.
And it was really exciting to see the effect it had he effect it had. People were waiting their turn to pedal, wanting to taste the sorbet we were making, taking each other's photos and generally enjoying the glow from these unique one-off bikes.
We were invited to do bike blended margaritas at a party for the theoretical physics community at a house in Palo Alto, and we brought the Ectoplasmic bike. All the physicists were drinking margaritas and taking turns pedaling. It doesn’t matter if it’s kids or scientists. A beautiful interactive illuminated bike will make the party better. There are so many parties, there are so many groups of people, and each has their own focus. Once in a while, they come together and celebrate, they drop the work and get social with each other. That's the moment to relax, and these bikes were built for that: being in the event space, lighting up when someone pedals, being an activity that makes the party fun. Helping people relax, helping people build their own community while empowering people with their muscle power, is exactly the mission of Rock the Bike.
These ectoplasmic bikes are sized the same as the Fender Blender Pro, so anything that a pro can do, these can do. We set these illuminated bikes for each event to serve a function. If you want to do a DJ party, they can be set up to power the DJ equipment. If you want to do a bike blending event, they can be set up with a bike blender. If you want them to charge phones, they can charge phones.
They are made one at a time using composite materials. They are not suitable for use in full sun – they will yellow. But during evenings and nights, an hour or so before sunset and continuing into dusk or beyond, they will have an alluring glow drawing crowds of people wanting to show off their pedaling efforts on these unique functional art bikes.
