Netflix and Stranger Things!

Rock the Bike x Stranger Things at a CicLAvia Open Streets Event!

To celebrate the final season of Stranger Things, Netflix set out to create an interactive, community-oriented event that would bring the world of the show into real life. The result was a bold co-branded activation at CicLAvia, Los Angeles’ iconic open-streets event, which closed the entire length of Melrose Avenue in Hollywood. For those familiar with the area, the action unfolded right near Universal Studios Hollywood.

Bringing a major pop-culture moment like Stranger Things into a public, community-focused space can be tricky. There’s always a risk that a large brand presence could overshadow the spirit of an open-streets event. In this case, though, the level of creativity, fun, and cultural resonance made the experience feel like a true celebration rather than an intrusion.

Netflix worked with local fabricators to transform rickshaws into immersive Stranger Things scenes and characters - from the Hawkins Sheriff’s Department to monsters, the Scoops Ahoy Ice Cream Parlor, and roller skaters cruising through the crowd.

Fans showed up in force, many wearing Hawkins T-shirts, mullets, and full ’80s nostalgia, clearly excited to see the Stranger Things universe spill out into the streets of Los Angeles.

Enter: Rock the Bike.

We rolled in ready to generate some serious pedal power with five Recharge Bike stations. Two of the bikes were wired with blue extension cords, powering a speaker playing the show’s catchy ’80s soundtrack - setting the tone and keeping the energy high. At any given moment, our station was buzzing with 50–100 people, from pedalers and families to folks dancing along to the music.

And because details matter, our team customized the bikes with banana seats inspired by the bikes featured in Stranger Things.

Banana seats come with a challenge - they’re less adjustable - so we adapted. The bikes were preset for small, medium, and large riders, and our three on-site coaches actively directed participants to the bikes that fit them best. The result was a smooth, inclusive experience that kept the energy flowing all day long.

Overall? It was a total vibe.

This Stranger Things activation wasn’t about competition - it was about community.

People pedaled together, cheered each other on, and shared a collective moment powered entirely by human energy.
