In the Xtracycle community, many people find that it's simpler to pack the bike whole than to break it apart into the original bike frame and the FreeRadical frame. For flying, airlines don't care if the bike box is 50 inches long or 66 inches long. They'll charge you for a bike either way.

But to answer your question. Taking the FreeRadical frame off is a simple matter of undoing the three bolts, taking off your brakes and derailleur (that's three more allen bolts). That's a total of 6 bolts to undo.  There are ways to use cable splitters so that you don't have to undo the brakes or derailleur. But splitters are a bit pricey, so it depends how often you'll be doing this.
