Should I post a new event listing for every one of our cruises? We do it weekly, but we were thinking it would be easier to promote just one cruise a month, maybe make that one cruise a month the big deal, with themes or something, and still just do some regular cruising every other week. Does that make sense?
How often do you guys host rides out there?

The Southbay Cruisers Host our main ride monthly
We promote a themed ride monthly usually the third friday or saturday of the month. We try to keep it at the same time each month. We have on ocassion had more than one themed ride-For example when the ginger ninjas and shake your peace came in town we set up a second ride for them.
We've also hosted 'breakfast rides' on weekends during the day. We don't usually promote them-just see who wants to grab breakfast and go out for a ride while listening to some music.
There have been suggestions for more themed rides during the month, but it comes down to who wants to volunteer to help put them together.
I think it does make sense to have smaller low key rides. I've found that some of our people who attend our main ride at night, do so after they checked us out on a smaller ride during the day.
Monthly is a natural pace. You don't have to list every one.
What's up Joey,
Out in San Francisco, we host only 6 big cruiser Rides per year. They happened more often when we started doing it, but lately I've been thinking quality is more important than quantity when it comes to Cruiser Rides.
We don't pick a specific monthly date. We pick certain holidays, like July 4th, Halloween, or a specific concert, like Michael Franti's "Power to the Peaceful". And we organize to do certain cool things on those dates.
I host rides with my friends almost every week, but I don't throw those up on the SF Cruisers list because I don't always want to plan them in advance and make the commitment to a particular place and time.
I suggest you continue doing the weeklies for fun but focus on producing 6-8 badass rides in '08. There's no harm in posting rides more often, but just don't promise the world to your list everytime. Set up the weeklies so people know to expect, perhaps, a shorter time commitment or simpler theme, if any.
Hope that helps, maybe Wild Johnny will chime in. He's been getting some really good turnouts at the South Bay Cruisers rides.

Good call!
Our Halloween Bike-or-Treat was a big success that we had flyered around town, but after that our regular weekly cruises kinda diminished with the weather. I think right now we are going to start planning the first big ride of the year, which might wait till spring... but we are also thinking of maybe doing a big viking cruise in the snow!
What do you think?

Viking theme looks like fun, for sure.
If you can get 10 people to dress like vikings and ride bikes together, more power to you. What kind of music would you play, I mean, other than Bjork?

VIKING MUSIC!
besides some viking-folk and viking-folk-inspired-metal, there are straight up viking metal bands like Amon Amarth! but unfortunately I am no longer in Rochester at this point so if the ride happens it happens without me :(
